UF Health Jacksonville and Springfield

Potential routing area of an extension of the Skyway to the north
During the 1970s planning of the Skyway, a direct link with UF Health Jacksonville, the inner city’s largest employer, was viewed as an essential link in the establishment of a successful system. To the detriment of the system, this connection was never made. Since that time, the amount of medical related facilities has increased around UF Health Jacksonville. In addition to UF Health Jacksonville, this link could also serve revitalizing historic Springfield, FSCJ Downtown campus and forgotten neighborhoods like Sugar Hill and Durkeeville.
Springfield is a large walkable neighborhood that could be connected to the Skyway if expanded to serve UF Health Jacksonville.
The University Of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute is one of several medical related facilities that have been constructed in the vicinity of UF Health Jacksonville since the Skyway link to the medical district was originally proposed.
