San Marco

Conceptual San Marco expansion route and station location
An extension of the Skyway into San Marco may be the best opportunity for the Skyway to serve as an alternative to traffic gridlock. Currently, Hendricks Avenue and San Marco Boulevard are the only two roadway connections between San Marco and the downtown Southbank. Both are also at mercy to a busy at-grade railroad crossing, located between two major railyards. Extending the Skyway to Atlantic Boulevard, over the FEC railroad tracks, immediately creates a direct high frequency transit link between San Marco Square, East San Marco and all of downtown.
Conceptual San Marco expansion route with additional station
Looking at the proposed Skyway alignment and station location into San Marco, most of the neighborhood would still be located more than a 1/4-mile walk radius from the station. This can be resolved by placing an additional station in the vicinity of the Balis Community Center and Southside Park. Such an addition would place the entire Hendricks Avenue corridor within a short distance of high frequency transit and set up Lasalle Street and Landon Avenue to serve as direct conduits into the remaining neighborhood.
A Skyway vehicle crosses the St. Johns River on its way to the Southbank.
Unfortunately a railroad line, fence and elevated network of expressways limits pedestrian scale connectivity options between the Skyway and San Marco.
