On the Riverfront
The City Council recently approved the PUD modification for The Broadstone River House, a 263 unit apartment located on the former Crawdaddy’s site next to the Lexington Hotel. The proposed development indicates sidewalks and signage will connect Prudential Drive to the Riverwalk on both sides of the property. The design also integrates a waterfront pedestrian plaza that will provide public access to the Riverwalk and a view of the St. Johns River.
The District - Life Well Lived - Jacksonville is not a retirement community end of life experience, but rather, according to the website, is a healthy town concept that promotes a new approach in community living where residents have access to everything needed to live a healthful life. It is proposed as a mixed use mega-development on the 30-acre JEA Southside Generating Site that will transform the downtown Southside and the river front.
Last but Not Least
A nine-story, 330,000-square-foot building is under construction to house the Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center, a partnership between Baptist Health and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The new building is located on a two-block tract of land across San Marco Boulevard from the current Baptist Outpatient Center and Reid Medical Buildings. The more than $150 million development project will provide a home for highly coordinated, multidisciplinary state-of-the-art cancer care for patients throughout the southeastern United States. The new building will be connected to the current buildings by a pedestrian bridge/skywalk. Other features of the development design include a wide pedestrian-friendly walkway and a pedestrian plaza adjacent to San Marco Boulevard, and a shared use path along the north side of Children’s Way and Nira Street from Palm Avenue to the railroad tracks.
