6. Social Grounds Coffee Company 1712 Main Street
After roasting coffee in a Southside warehouse since 2015, Jason Kelloway plans to open the Social Grounds Coffee Company in a Goffin Building retail storefront at 1712 North Main Street. According to a recent Times-Union article, owner Jason Kelloway said that selecting Springfield as his first brick-and-mortar location was an easy decision; “Springfield has talked about making a comeback for a long time but the housing market held it up and hurt it,” he said. “The movement is happening and we felt like why not pioneer and get ahead of it, get out there and show people that we believe in our neighborhood.”
Featuring more than 1,000-square-feet and 20 seats, the coffeehouse will offer nitro brew and baked goods. Springfield’s newest coffeehouse plans to open its doors in April 2017.
