Forming the border between the United States and Canada, the Detroit River is a 24 mile waterway that connects Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie in the Great Lakes system.

Located directly across the Detroit River from Downtown Detroit, with a population of 217,000, Windsor is the third most populated city in Southwestern Ontario.

The former Parke-Davis and Company Pharmaceutical Plant complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The former industrial complex is now a mixed use development featuring offices, retail space, residences, and a hotel.

Once home to heavy industry along the riverfront, the Rivertown - Warehouse District has become known as a place for adaptive reuse of warehouses into lofts, bars, restaurants and new infill multifamily development.

For many decades, the Grand Trunk Western Railroad served industrial users along the Detroit River, including the Detroit-Michigan Stove plant, United States Rubber Company and the Parke-Davis and Company Pharmaceutical plant. The abandoned railroad line is now a 2.5-mile greenway called the Dequindre Cut. This popular shared-use path directly connects the Detroit International Riverwalk with the heart of Eastern Market on the other side of Downtown Detroit.

The Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) is an attraction where visitors can experience outdoor adventures. The OAC occupies a former historic industrial complex that dates back to the 1860s, where a young Henry Ford onced worked as an apprentice of the Dry Dock Engine Works.

The William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor consists of the former city-owned St. Aubin Park and Marina and an adjacent reclaimed brownfield. The brownfield was redeveloped as restoration wetlands, intended to mimic the riverine wetlands that once bordered the Detroit River. This portion of the park opened to the public on December 3, 2009.

Cullen Plaza is a popular access point to the Detroit River for local restaurants. Home to the RiverWalk Café, it includes a bike shop offering bike rentals, a carousel, children’s playscape, fountains and public restroom facilities.
