Street Art Murals

The CSX Hulsey Yard forms the northern border of Cabbagetown. Nearly a mile in length, the rail yard was originally part of the Georgia Railroad and Banking Company. Paralleling Tennelle and Wylie Streets in Cabbagetown and neighboring Reynoldstown, the rail yard’s south wall is one of the city’s most prominent street art destinations.

Krog Street Tunnel

Built in 1912, under the Hulsey Yard, the Krog Street Tunnel connects Cabbagetown with Inman Park. Considered to be a part of the BeltLine, since the 1960s, it has been a major graffiti destination in Atlanta.

Reynoldstown

Reynoldstown is a small neighborhood adjacent to Cabbagetown that was established by the former enslaved following the end of the Civil War. Home to railroad workers, prior to the mid-century decline of the railroad industry, the neighborhood was nearly one percent African-American populated. Designated as a National Register Historic District in 2003 and in the midst of ongoing gentrification since the 1990s, its African-American population base has declined to 35 percent.

A number of industrial uses formed the southern border of Reynoldstown and Cabbagetown for much of Atlanta’s history. A popular BeltLine Eastside Trail destination, significant redevelopment has taken place along Memorial Drive in the immediate vicinity. Located at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Chester Avenue, the A&P Lofts are located in an old A&P Bakery building dating back to 1920.

Atlanta Dairies

Paces Properties, the developer of neighboring Inman Park’s Krog Street Market, is in the process of converting the former Atlanta Dairies plant into a mixed-use development on the southern border of Reynoldstown and Cabbagetown. Established in 1945, the Atlanta Dairies was a dairy cooperative that ceased operations in 2004. The site is now being redeveloped into a curated mix of specialty shopping, dining, entertainment venues, office space and apartments.
