61. Beaver Street Improvement Project

Construction continues on the $9.2 million Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Beaver Street improvement project between McDuff Avenue and Stockton Street. The project involves resurfacing and pavement reconstruction, replacement/addition of sidewalks on both sides of the street and widening travel lanes from 10 to 11 feet. The project is scheduled to be complete in spring 2017.

62. Mary Eaves Senior Citizen Housing Center

The Northwest Jacksonville Community Development Corporation and Vestcor is building the $8.2 million Mary Eaves Senior Citizen Housing Center in Durkeeville at 1250 West 16th Street. When complete in Fall 2017, the 80-unit apartment building will include a library, community center, fitness center, theatre room, game room, outdoor garden and salon.

63. Jacksonville Farmers Market

Plans for a significant facelift and customer accommodation project at the Jacksonville Farmers Market are now underway. Building permits have been pulled for an array of improvements including wider sidewalks, metal awnings and safety bollards along all building facades and handicap access improvements. Of significance, the permanent metal awnings will eliminate current makeshift tarps to shield sun-sensitive products being sold by the market’s vendors. In addition, the project will add signage along the facade of building sheds, identifying the market’s growing list of tenants. Completion on this $560,000 project is anticipated to take place around July 4th. $150,000 of which is being provided by the Northwest Jacksonville Economic Development Trust Fund.

64. Payne Avenue Walk

Land has been cleared at 1065 W. 11th Street for the development of Payne Avenue Walk. Adjacent to the S-Line Urban Greenway, the development will consist of 12 affordable single family structures.

65. 8th Street Fast Cafe

Murat Ergisi and Mehmet Sunu are in the process of retrofiting a former gas station, at West 8th Street, Davis Street and Interstate 95, into a restaurant called the 8th Street Fast Café. When complete, the 1,604-square-foot restaurant will serve sandwiches, burgers, fries, wings, pizza, salads and more.
