Construction on the second segment of SR 9B between US 1/Philips Highway and I-95 started on April 15, 2013. It opened to traffic on June 13, 2016. The result of a public-private partnership between the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Infrastructure Development Partners (a collaboration between Deutsche Bank and Superior Construction), this new $95 million stretch of roadway features noise walls adjacent to the Flagler Station residential development and an off-ramp into Flagler Center.

This two-mile extension includes 8 bridges and was designed to alleviate traffic from the I-95 and I-295 interchange in Mandarin.

Work on the final 2.3-mile phase of the highway began on September 8, 2015. Arguably the most anticipated and sought after leg of the corridor, when complete in summer 2018, it will serve as a new link between rapidly growing neighborhoods in Northern St. Johns County and I-95.

This $79.7 million leg will include a new interchange at a new road called Cummer Parkway. This 1-mile road will provide a direct connection to and from Race Track Road to SR 9B. In addition,it is intended to facilitate major commercial development, including a long sought after Bass Pro Shop. When complete, SR 9B will become the city’s fourth interstate, I-795.
