Protest in San Marco
Local demonstrations over the death of George Floyd in police custody have continued since Saturday, May 30. On Wednesday, June 3, organizers hosted the I Can’t Breathe Solidary Reflection Walk through the streets of San Marco, one of Jacksonville’s most affluent urban neighborhoods.
More than 1,000 people met in Southside Park by the San Marco Library for speeches before marching down to San Marco Square and through the neighborhood. While rumors of potential violence and conspiracy spread online in advance of the march, and some businesses on the route boarded up their windows, the march proceeded and dispersed peacefully.
