GENERAL INFORMATION

DDRB Application 2024-009 seeks both Conceptual and Final Review for Baptist Medical Center Emergency Department Expansion. New construction includes a 110,000 square foot, four story (with additional utility penthouse) building adjacent to renovation of the existing emergency services building.

Each of the four floors is 14’ in height for a total of 56’. The building includes a 20’ utility penthouse, for a total building height of 76’. The building sits on an approximately 17-acre parcel containing 8, multistory buildings that, together, are part of the Baptist medical center complex. Adjacent buildings include the J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver Tower, the Baptist Women’s Pavillion, and the Laurette J. Howard building, each of which is taller than the 76’ new construction sought through this application. To the east, west and south of the proposed building are multi-story medical buildings. To the north is a ramp leading to and from second and third floors above the children and adults emergency room drop off

Conceptual & Final Approval

This application requests Conceptual and Final Approval at the same meeting. This has been done in very limited and unique circumstances. This is one of those unique circumstances in that this is an infill project that is not adjacent to any public right-of-way. The building site is located entirely within a parcel. Additionally, the only building not owned by Baptist from which the new construction will be visible is a parking garage.
