In January 1956, Mildred Thompson borrowed $600 to acquire the Dandee Sandwich Company from a man named John Noegel. At the time, Noegel had just ten customers, all confectionaries located in downtown Jacksonville. Today, Dandee Foods continues as a family owned and operated sandwich manufacturer located at 2178 West 21st Street.
Gleckler and Sons Building Supply is a manufacturer and distributor of floor and roof trusses, framing lumber, doors and trim. Dating back to 1950, the lumber mill is located at 2175 West 18th Street.
A scene not common in more well known historic neighborhoods in the city, heavy industry can be found directly across the street from residential uses in parts of Grand Park.
The Prince Hall Masonic Temple is located at 2210 West 10th Street.
The Flowers Baking Company opened this 115,526 square foot bakery in Grand Park in 1965. Located at 2261 West 30th Street, it replaced an older bakery that was located on Myrtle Avenue in the Rail Yard District.
General Motors was one of the first major companies to open a plant along one of Grand Park’s railroad lines following the end of World War II. Completed in 1947, this former GM factory was taken over by Crown Products Company in 1997. Located at 3545 New Kings Road, Crown Products is a Jacksonville based company that manufactures heating and air-conditioning ducts and fittings.
Sysco Foods International Food Group Inc. operates a 203,441 square foot refrigerated warehouse at 3100 Hilton Street. This structure dates back to 1964 and was originally built for A&P. Prior to its development, A&P’s Southeastern Headquarters was located on West Beaver Street near the Jacksonville Farmers Market. That former A&P warehouse complex is currently occupied by Beaver Street Fisheries.
