Perry Harvey Sr. Park
In addition to serving as a central public space for the redevelopment of the The Scrub, Perry Harvey Sr. Park could also be viewed as a living and breathing history lesson.
Five years after the last business on Central Avenue closed, Perry Harvey Sr. Park was created and dedicated to Harvey, a neighborhood civil rights leader who organized the local International Longshoreman’s Association.
Redesigned and renovated in 2016, the $6.3 million park’s amenities include a heritage trail, clay tile murals and art installations that change as one walks past them. Other amenities include public restrooms, an interactive fountain, basketball courts, and a skatepark.
