4. Associated Road Improvements
Since the opening of St. Johns Town Center, many would conclude that traffic conditions have become unbearable along Town Center Parkway, in the vicinity of Gate Parkway. According to FDOT Florida Traffic Online, Town Center Parkway carried 37,000 vehicles in 2015. With this in mind, roadway improvements are in order to accommodate the additional traffic headed to this regional retail and dining destination. Roadway Improvement projects proposed include:
-
Weebers Crossing Drive - A new three-lane road, connecting Town Center Parkway to Skinner Lake Drive, just west of Gate Parkway. This road will serve tenants of The Crossings development.
-
Gate and Town Center Parkway Intersection - Northbound Gate Parkway will be widened to include a left turn lane to Weebers Crossing Drive, two northbound through lanes and two right turn lanes to Town Center Parkway. In addition, a right turn lane will be added, just north of Town Center Parkway to serve The Strand development.
-
Town Center Parkway - An extra eastbound travel lane will be added to Town Center Parkway between Gate Parkway and Big Island Drive, faciliting additional traffic generated by The Strand development. In addition, a share-use path will be build on the north side of Town Center Parkway in the vicinity of The Strand development.
